Cybersecurity: 2023 Trends
December 16th 2022
Recent years have shown that cybersecurity is an increasingly important issue for companies. In fact, cyber attacks have proliferated and they can cause them many problems related to regulations and economical losses.
On top of the reasons behind these threats there are the improperly secured networks of the company, as much as naïve employees unaware of the risks of using non-secured devices while working from home. This is strictly related to the transition to remote work which started during the Covid-19 pandemic and then spread in a large percentage of companies all over the world.
The continuous changes in technologies are also inserted in this scenario. Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence are just some examples of innovations that require new ways of protecting data. When it comes to businesses, particular attention should be paid to some key trends that will affect 2023.
Speaking of Internet of Things, analysts predict that there will be 43 billion IoT-connected devices in the world in 2023. From home appliances to cars, there are many tools that can be targeted as victims by hackers. Since these devices are usually not used to store data, the aim of attackers is to find ways to exploit them as gateways to access other network devices that might collect it. New governmental regulations should enter into force in 2023 to increase the security of these devices.
A useful tool that can be used as a weapon against cyber attacks is Artificial Intelligence. Machine learning algorithms can predict information about these attacks, such as the place where they will take place. After analyzing a big amount of data and recognizing specific patterns, AI can help companies react to the threats and save data and money. The downside of these technologies is their open access: hackers can use them as much as anyone else, obtaining private information in new creative ways.
As smartphone are becoming more and more working tools, it is necessary to also secure photos, financial transactions, emails, and messages. In 2023, viruses or malwares on smartphones could gain the interest of companies, along with cloud applications. In fact, storing information on the cloud is not immune to hackers. From phishing attacks to malicious software, employees can make mistakes while using their devices, and this is why monitoring and updating security measures is necessary to avoid data leaks.
Finally, the most important step to guarantee the cybersecurity in every organization is raising awareness around cybersecurity issues. The attention to these matters should concern anyone involved in the company, not just the IT department, because basic security skills could prevent dangerous cyber attacks and save the entire company.
