World Science Day for Peace and Development

Established in 2001 by UNESCO, World Science Day for Peace and Development focuses on the importance of science in our society and on the essential need of sharing information on scientific subjects with the citizens.

This year’s World Science Day theme is Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.
Basic sciences are the core of science. In order to improve the quality of life for people on the planet, our society must recognize their value.

By exploring and experimenting with these sciences, humanity has seen many technological revolutions that have reshaped our globe. While our planet is facing new challenges, basic sciences can help us find innovative solutions to produce, travel and heat in a more sustainable way.

Thanks to UNESCO, every 10 November we celebrate this event to keep in mind the important role of science and to allow everyone to take part in scientific debates and activities. Making science accessible to different actors can help each of them to enhance their knowledge on our fragile planet and to take action on the change.
