Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes or other fruits. In 2021, Wine ranked as the 108th most traded product globally, with a total trade value of $41 billion. Notably, the exports of Wine experienced a significant growth rate of 20.2% between 2020 and 2021, increasing from $34.1 billion to $41 billion. Despite its growth, Wine trade represents a relatively small portion of total world trade, accounting for just 0.0019%.
France emerged as the leading exporter of Wine in 2021, with exports valued at $13.2 billion. Italy followed closely behind at $8.53 billion, while Spain exported Wine worth $3.53 billion. New Zealand and Chile also contributed significantly, with exports amounting to $2.07 billion and $1.98 billion, respectively.
On the import side, the United States held the position of the top importer of Wine in 2021, importing Wine worth $7.05 billion. The United Kingdom ranked second with imports valued at $5.09 billion, followed by Germany at $3.38 billion. Canada and Japan also displayed notable imports, amounting to $2.25 billion and $1.68 billion, respectively.
These statistics shed light on the global trade dynamics within the Wine industry, showcasing the key players in both exports and imports. France, Italy, and Spain stand out as prominent exporters, while the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany lead in terms of imports. These figures reflect the popularity and global demand for Wine as a cultural, culinary, and social commodity.
In 2020, production of wine was most prevalent in the European countries of Italy, France, and Spain. Indeed, their share of the production for wine was 19%, 18%, and 16% respectively. Other honorable mentions are Argentina, Australia, the USA, and South Africa.
