Suriname: a look at the market

Suriname is a small country in South America, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, French Guiana to the east, and Guiana to the west.
From 1975 it is officially the Republic of Suriname, but before gaining its independence it was formerly known as Dutch Guiana as it was a plantation colony of the Netherlands. Most of its inhabitants are descended from African slaves and Indian and Javanese indentured labourers brought over by the Dutch to work in the plantations.
Part of the Amazon rainforest, with an untouched wildlife and nature, Suriname can count on its many natural resources.
The economy of Suriname
The economy of the country relies heavily on the mining industry, with exports of oil and gold accounting for around 85% of exports and 25% of government revenues.
The top exports of Suriname are gold ($2B), rough wood ($83.2M), non-fillet frozen fish ($43.5M), refined petroleum ($36.6M), and rice ($34.6M), exporting mostly to Switzerland ($1.12B), United Arab Emirates ($704M), United States ($179M), China ($54.2M), and Belgium ($53.2M).
Moreover, Suriname imports excavation machinery ($55.2M), cars ($48.2M), rolled tobacco ($26.7M), delivery trucks ($26.3M), and large construction vehicles ($24.7M), mostly from United States ($246M), China ($221M), Netherlands ($204M), Japan ($46.9M), and Brazil ($31.4M).
In 2020 Suriname was the number 136 economy in the world in terms of total exports and the number 173 in total imports.
