Perfumes: export and import

Perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils or aroma compounds, fixatives and solvents, in liquid form, used to give the human body, animals, food, objects and living-spaces an agreeable musk.

Nevertheless, perfume ingredients may all cause health or environmental problems when used. Although the areas are under active research, much remains to be learned about the effects of fragrance on human health and the environment.

Some fragrances can also cause reactions in some individuals, especially those with severe or atopic asthma. Many scent ingredients can also cause headaches, allergic skin reactions or nausea.

However, the USA FDA (Food and Drug Administration) controls the safety of perfumes through their fixings and requires that they be tested to the extent that they are Generally recognized as safe (GRAS). Due to the need for protection of trade secrets, companies rarely give the full listing of ingredients regardless of their effects on health.
